Question 6. Compounds such as alcohols and glucose also contain hydrogen but are not categorized as acids. Describe an Activity to prove it.
Answer: As shown in figure insert two nails on the wooden or rubber cork and place it in a beaker. Now connect these iron nails with a bulb, a 6 volt battery and a switch using a wire. Now pour some alcohol or glucose such that the nails will dip into it. Now turn the switch on, you will see that the bulb will not glow. Now empty the beaker and add some HCl aqueous solution at this time the bulb will glow. This proves that an acid can conduct electricity while alcohols and glucose cannot, even when they are containing hydrogen.

Above diagram shows that an acid solution can conduct electricity.

ReplyDeleteTwo nails are fitted on a car and are kept in hundred ml beaker they are when connected to the two terminals of a 6 volt battery through able and easy from dilute hydrochloric acid is poured in the beaker and the current is switched ON and the same experiment is names of form with glucose solution and alcohol solution observation after observation it is observed that a bulb glow in HCL solution and does not glow in glucose solution this HCL dissociates into h + and CL minus ions the science conduct electricity in the solution resulting in the glowing of the bulb on the other hand the glucose solution does not dissociates into ions therefore it does not conduct electricity inference from this activity it can be concluded that all acid contain hydrogen ions but not all compound containing nitrogen OS is this proves that the alcohol and glucose contain hydrogen they are not categorised acid
