Why is the cell called the structural and functional unit of life?

2. Why is the cell called the structural and functional unit of life?
Answer: Cells are called the structural and functional unit of life because all the living organisms are made up of cells and also all the functions taking place inside the body of organisms are performed by cells.

  2. cell is the structural and functional unit of life as cells together form tissues, tissues together form organs and organs together form a living organism..

  6. if all the function of the body is performed by the cells than what makes dead body nonfunctional as all the cells are still present

    1. cell are non functional in dead body as due to damage of 1 or more organ the whole system which is coordinated gets disturb and hence important component which are required for cell to live are not available to the cell hence cell not non functional ............... 2 thing in multicellular organisms 1 cell cant perform all function ... hence this makes dead body non functional

    3. Many cases are there when more than one organs are non functional Bt still person lives.
These type of theories are cheating people's from reality....
Living force is different from this whole body.. If that is not there then your body can't do even a single function.

  15. They are called structural units as they form the structure of the living organism. A tissue is formed by grouping similar cells from the same origin that together carry out a specific function. Organs are then formed by the functional grouping together of multiple tissues. Organs combine to form organ system, which further combine to form a organism. So , cell is the basic structural unit for all unicellular and multicellular organisms.

In every cell some basic life process or functions such as digestion , respiration , excretion, etc takes place to keep the organism alive. So ,the cells are called functional unit of life .

    1. Cells are called the structural unit of life because every organism is made up of organs which are further made up of tissues. Tissues are the group of cells performing similar functions. Thus, we can say that all the living organisms are ultimately made from cells.
Some of the basic life processes takes place in every cell to keep the organism alive such as digestion, respiration, exreation, etc whether it is unicellular or multicellular organism. So, cell is also called the functional unit of life
